(Short side note: As you go through your Esther workbook, there are 2 pages before each new week titled "viewer guide". If you aren't watching the videos that go along with the study, you can skip those pages.)
"If reading Scripture has been more like law than life to you..." - page 15
My daily life consists of faith-related things, which might include:
Bible study
Writing
Conversations
Christian music
Listening to a sermon online
Reading
Praying
I have such a passion for my faith, yet so often I still have to force myself to open my physical Bible and read it. I have more interest in reading it than I used to, but I want it to grow into a deep passion. Maybe the more I do it, the more I will want to do it. I have felt like God has spoken to me and made His presence known through His Word. That is exciting and it has helped build my desire. But, I've learned that sometimes it takes diligence and self-discipline and doing things even when I'd rather do something else before a passion grows.
Cool story:
So, AFTER I had written the above post today, I came across a video sermon by one of my favorite pastors (Pete Wilson). I started watching it and, in his message, he was talking about the fact of Jesus being Jewish and in Jewish traditions of the past, something that was said to boys learning to memorize the Torah was: "May the words of God be the most pleasurable, the most enjoyable thing that you could ever comprehend."
Then, referring to the Bible he was holding in his hand, he went on to ask, "... when you think about Scripture, do you think that this is the most pleasurable, most amazing thing that you could comprehend?"
I'd love to hear from you!
1) Do you have a passion for His Word? Is reading your Bible something you want to spend more time doing?
2) If you have any other thoughts, things you've learned, things you got out of week 1 day 2, please feel free to share in the comments section below!

What we see as our worth is very important.
ReplyDeleteWe should base our worth on the Word of God: ascribing to God and His measureless worth... as pg. 18 states.
We like to base our worth on what we own and have. We base our worth on what the world says is "worthy" and acceptable.
It will be hard to change your thinking and start seeing that your worth is not based on what your family, friends or neighbors say.. it is based on the Word of God.
I'm sure you want to change your thinking. You would like to start thinking that it would be better to base your worth on what God says, don't you?
Anyone reading this... the comment above was by Brenda. :)
DeleteFirst thing, I do have a passion for God's word! I'm hungry for it, I read it a lot everyday, especially because it's so handy on my phone, but sitting down with my Bible to take notes, journal, memorize and deeply study has always been a struggle for me. One reason I decided I'm signing up for this online Bible Study, it will force me to deeply study daily! :) Next what I got out of day 2 study was we are all going to die and we can't take anything with us, so why do I still want stuff? Also I've been posting on fb for friends of mine to help support with a financial gift a family who really needs it right now, and I'm surprised at how little my Christian friends respond, I'm not trying to be judgemental at all, I just think it's so easy for us to just overlook a need and then go treat ourselves out to dinner or even having our nails done. I just really want to take to heart the verse that says,"Store up for yourselves treasures in heaven". Another thing on a lighter note, on pg 15 I just find it ironic how I was thinking (while in the shower the other day, lol) before reading this chapter that I have changed as a person through the years. I remember probably 12 or so years ago taking a personality test and being a high melancholy phlegmatic personality. Now I see myself leaning to more sanguine phlegmatic with a hint of melancholy and I was thinking I should blog about it, I still might. And Beth Moore is right, I do love the mixing business with pleasure part of this story! :) ~Sandra
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your thoughts, Sandra. It has helped me so much over the past 2 years or so to have Brenda for accountability in regards to Bible study. I have an easier time pushing myself to do the studies when I am doing them with someone else, have a schedule to follow, and have someone to share what I've learned with. I've started reading so many faith-related books on my own and not finished them, but when I was leading an online women's Christian book club, I had an easier time actually finishing a book. Ha. :) I wasn't familiar with the personality type stuff you mentioned. Sounds interesting. I just looked up and read a little bit of info to see what you were talking about. :)

Thanks for letting me share Cari! :) Yes since I read a book on personalities it has really helped me to have grace for all kinds of people, just being able to identify someone's personality really helps to understand them in a unique way. I served on a women's ministry team and my pastor's wife had us read a book together that brought all of us ladies closer. I think I would like to read it again actually! It's called Personality Plus and you can buy it from Christian Book Distributors, here is a link, if you're interested in buying it :) http://www.christianbook.com/personality-plus-revised-ebook/florence-littauer/9781441200075/pd/6366EB
ReplyDeleteThank you. That's cool that it helped you have grace and understand people more. Did it help you learn more about yourself?
